FAMILY FLOWS
While teaching Art to young students in Vietnam, I stumbled upon a peculiar and unfamiliar painting technique known as “Pour Art”. A process of pouring layers of liquid paint onto a horizontally lain canvas and then lifting and moving the canvas in such a way that gravity will manipulate the paint, allowing it to slide and spread across the canvas. Variations in technique will create hypnotic, swirling colour formations, swept with curving contours and exciting flashes of vibrant movement.
After practicing these methods for some time and also sharing with my students, I began to develop an understanding of how to achieve different effects and patterns.
I had not spent time at home during Christmas for some years and decided to make series of Pour Paintings and had them shipped home to my my family and friends back in the UK. Each painting was 30x30cm on stretched canvas, arrived safely and were received happily.
