RIPPLE
“Wherever I go on this Good Earth, I will always be drawn back to the Ocean. It is a part of me, as I am a part of it…”
I have spent the last five or so years living on the North East Coast of Vietnam. In various locations, but mostly by the ocean. And it was while walking in the shallows one gloriously sunny day, that my gaze became fixed on the flowing patterns and wave ripples that had formed on the seabed. The gentle, snaking ridges with their elegant shadows cast in sunlight were quite mesmerizing. Although this phenomenon was not new to my eyes, having grown up by the beach, this day was different. I noticed them in a way that I had not before. The forms brought a deep feeling of serenity and satisfaction that washed over me, like the gentle tides rolling over the sands.
I was inspired. I wasted no time in collecting a large jar of sand and set to work making this sculpture.
Plywood board, terracotta clay, wall filler, glue, sand and acrylic paint ~ 30x75cm
