OCEANIC TABLET
One day while hopping across the rock pools at the beach. as I always loved to do when I was a boy, I began to notice the intriguing patterns and grooves on the rocks caused by the countless years of oceanic erosion. It really is quite remarkable that water has the power to gradually eat into something as solid as rock, carving and pit marking it over hundreds and thousands of years.
This piece began as a test. An exploratory project, inspired by some of the rock formations I had seen at the water’s edge. Rather than attempt to create a copy of the rocks, colour and all, I chose a pale sea green.
Stretched canvas, terracotta clay, wall filler, glue, sand, spray-paint.
